In honor of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, this free event will bring together over 30 community organizations, government offices, and medical institutions to provide health screenings, fitness training sessions, mental health services, dental care supplies, and resource giveaways for the Woodlawn neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side.

Commissioner Lowry, a prostate cancer survivor, passed legislation in 2021 to establish September as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in Cook County. This year, he is proud to partner with Insight Hospital & Medical Center, Pepsico, and Black Men United to offer free health screenings, immunizations, an on-site blood drive, and a resource.

Lowry encourages all men to prioritize their health and well-being by stating that no one should die from prostate cancer, but knowledge, diligence, and prevention are essential. Regularly visit a physician, take the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test, and deal with any issues as soon as possible. While the American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 35,000 American men will die from prostate cancer in 2024, they also note that more than 3.1 million survivors are alive today. You are not alone in this. You can beat prostate cancer!
